Oliver (1968) (Musical)

Oliver! (1968 Musicial)

Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist. The film includes several musical numbers, including "Food, Glorious Food", "Consider Yourself", "As Long as He Needs Me", "You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two" and "Where Is Love?". Filmed in Shepperton Film Studio in Surrey, the film was a Romulus Films production and was distributed internationally by Columbia Pictures.

Within the musical numbers are a lot of in-jokes. For example, the song "I'd do anything" contains the line "Would you fight my Bill?" to which the Artful Dodger replies "What! Fisti-cuffs!?!" and "You see, Oliver it's just a game, until you get caught!" (aka "Don't get caught") and even as far back in the movie as "Food, Glorious Food" one of the Orphanage Boys goes "Yuck!" at the sight of the gruel being poured into his bowl.

One scene that was within the "book" "Oliver Twist" that didn't make it into the movie was during the scene "Boy for Sale" the book lists an "unnamed creep" that even Oliver got a "bad, creepy feeling from" which was made worse by the man kept "doubling his bid for Oliver" (right up until the time that Mr Bumble hailed a real Durston policeman, to which the unnamed person fled the scene, hands empty).
