Interesting side note: The actor who played Baron Vultan (of the Hawkmen) (Brian Blessed) played VulTan in this movie, while in the "Misadventures of Baron von Munchasen" played the deity VulCan (named for Volcanoes, or vice versa) and the latter film was released in 1981, the year just after Flash Gordon.

Interesting side note 2: There is another version of this movie, "Flesh Gordon", that is a "slightly higher maturity level" than this film, and while it was released in 1974, its "major plot details" slightly mirror that of this film, released in 1980. So it seems that the "Official Film" (this one) would be a "Parody of the parody while being the official version at the same time". This happens very rarely, except in Hollywood anyway.
